GUIA WRITING CAMBRIDGE B1

Hoy llegamos al final de nuestra serie de guías para el Writing, y lo hacemos con una herramienta esencial para nuestros alumnos de nivel B1 que preparan el Cambridge B1 Preliminary: la story y el article. Tras explorar el email y el essay, además del magazine article y el review del Oxford Test of English, hoy nos centramos en las opciones de la Parte 2 de Cambridge: un article o una story de unas 100 palabras en 20-25 minutos (dentro de los 45 minutos totales). También os traemos una comparativa entre el writing de Oxford y Cambridge para que dominéis ambos exámenes. ¡Allá vamos!
Guía para escribir una Story (Cambridge B1 Preliminary)
En la Parte 2 (Pregunta 3), podéis elegir escribir una historia corta. Os dan la primera frase y debéis continuarla. Consejos clave:
- Usad la frase inicial: No la cambiéis, desarrolladla como base.
- Cread una trama sencilla: Inicio, problema y solución claros.
- Tiempos pasados: Usad pasado simple (I ran), continuo (I was running) o perfecto (I had seen).
- Detalles vivos: Añadid emociones o descripciones, como “She felt terrified” o “The sky was red”.
- Final impactante: Cerrad con algo memorable, como una sorpresa o lección.
Ejemplo (Pregunta 3): “As the plane flew lower, Lou saw the golden beaches of the island below.”
As the plane flew lower, Lou saw the golden beaches of the island below. Excited, she grabbed her camera, but suddenly the engine sputtered. Passengers gasped as the plane shook. Lou’s heart raced—she’d never been so scared. The pilot shouted, “Hold on!” and managed to land safely on a tiny runway. Everyone cheered, relieved. Guía para escribir un Article (Cambridge B1 Preliminary)
En la Parte 2 (Pregunta 2), podéis optar por un artículo. Responde preguntas específicas y engancha al lector. Consejos:
- Responded todo: Cubrid cada pregunta del enunciado (ej. tipo de películas, dónde las veis, por qué).
- Captad la atención: Usad un inicio interesante, como “¿Eres fan del cine?”.
- Organizad bien: Dividid en párrafos: introducción, respuesta a cada pregunta y cierre.
- Lenguaje variado: Usad conectores (because, however) y opiniones (I think, In my opinion).
- Tono ligero: Es para una web, así que sed claros y atractivos.
Ejemplo (Pregunta 2): Films
I love watching films, especially adventures! They’re full of excitement and surprises, like treasure hunts or daring escapes. I prefer the cinema because the big screen makes everything feel real—last week, I saw a pirate movie and felt like I was on the ship! The sound is amazing too, much better than my TV at home. However, staying home is cozier and cheaper, so sometimes I choose that. For me, it’s all about the experience—cinema wins when I want a thrill! What about you? (105 palabras)
Comparativa: Writing B1 Oxford vs. Cambridge
Diferencias entre el writing del Oxford Test of English y el Cambridge B1 Preliminary:
Formatos:
Oxford: Parte 1 (email, 80-130 palabras) y Parte 2 (ensayo, magazine article o review, 100-160 palabras).
- Cambridge: Parte 1 (email, 100-120 palabras) y Parte 2 (article o story, 100 palabras).
Tiempo:
Oxford: 20 minutos (Parte 1) + 25 minutos (Parte 2).
- Cambridge: 45 minutos totales (aprox. 20-25 por tarea).
Opciones:
Oxford: Tres opciones en Parte 2 (ensayo, artículo, reseña); más variedad.
- Cambridge: Dos opciones (article o story); elección más limitada.
Enfoque:
Oxford: Comunicación efectiva, descripción y opinión; el magazine article es más libre.
Cambridge: Narrativa (story)o respuesta directa (article); más estructurado por preguntas.
