In the UK, the Easter season starts with Lent, a 40-day period when some people give up treats like chocolate to focus on their faith. Then, on Good Friday, many attend church and share hot cross buns, which are sweet rolls with a cross on top. On Easter Sunday, families go to church, enjoy a big roast lamb dinner, and children have fun hunting for chocolate eggs in gardens.
Across the ocean, in the USA, Easter traditions are quite similar. For example, many Americans go to church early on Sunday for sunrise services. After that, kids enjoy Easter egg hunts, and there’s even a famous event at the White House called the Easter Egg Roll, where children roll eggs with spoons. Also, families love eating chocolate bunnies and jelly beans together.
Meanwhile, in Canada, Easter brings a mix of traditions. Many people go to church and have egg hunts, but some families with Ukrainian roots make a special bread called Paska, which is a delicious Easter treat. On the other hand, in Australia, Easter happens in autumn because it’s in the Southern Hemisphere. So, many Australians go camping to enjoy the cooler weather, while still having egg hunts and eating hot cross buns.
Here’s a fun fact: in Australia, some people eat chocolate “bilbies” instead of bunnies. A bilby is a small Australian animal, and this tradition helps protect them. Overall, Easter in these countries is a wonderful time for food, family, and celebration.
